How to help a dog in the heat?
Summer is good, especially when there is a lake or river nearby. But in big cities it’s more difficult to tolerate heat, and not only we, but also pets suffer from it. In summer, many dogs become lethargic, lose their appetite, quickly get tired on walks, suffer from shortness of breath, etc. How to save a dog from the heat and give her a carefree summer? We read about this in our article.
We choose the time for walking
Walk your dog in the morning or evening. While it’s cool outside, you can play active games, work out teams and get the most out of your walk.
Avoid direct sunlight
For walks, choose parks, courtyards and public gardens with a saving shadow.
Adjust the load intensity
Your pet is not Rocky or the Terminator, and he does not need to work hard. If it’s hot outside, and the dog is tired and tormented by stuffiness, do not force her to conquer obstacles. Better take in a shade and drink water.
We provide access to drinking water
At home, the pet should always have access to fresh drinking water. But in the summer, water (and a compact bowl under it) should also be taken with you for walks. As soon as you see the dog is hot, give her a drink.

We follow the right diet
The quality of feeding leaves its mark on a lot. Even the way the dog tolerates heat. Do not overfeed your pet and do not give him fatty foods. To cope with such a diet, the body spends a huge amount of energy, and the dog becomes lethargic. Accordingly, it is more difficult to transfer heat to it.
No stuffy spaces!
If your apartment is very hot, and the open windows do not help, it’s time to think about the air conditioner. While you are working in a cool office, the pet is sitting at home in the stuffiness, and this is another test!
Do not leave the dog in the car
Even if you need to leave for just “5 minutes”, do not leave the dog alone in the car. In the heat, the car warms up very quickly, and the dog can become ill. Overheating with concomitant symptoms in the form of vomiting, etc., has not yet benefited anyone.
By the way, in some countries, passers-by have the right to break the car glass if a dog is locked in it. There is something to think about!
To cool the dog a little in the heat, moisten her paws, tummy and neck with cool water. But the head should remain untouched: otherwise you can provoke a sunstroke.
Protect skin and coat from UV rays and overdrying
Dogs have sensitive skin. Therefore, even with extreme heat, cutting pets with medium to long hair is not recommended. The shorter the coat, the higher the chance of sunburn.
To protect your skin and coat from dryness and burnout, wash your dog in the summer with special protective equipment (for example, shampoos and conditioners of the ISB Black Passion line). Before walking, be sure to apply a protective cream with UV filters to the skin of hairless dogs. These actions will help protect the pet from the harmful effects of sunlight and preserve the health and beauty of the skin and coat.
We are chosen by nature
A trip to nature with walks and swimming is the dream of many dogs. The more often you will take your pet away from the bustle of the city – the happier it will be. But do not forget about the safety rules! Be sure to vaccinate your pet and treat it against parasites.
